Black Gates Meek and Dong Optometrists
Renowned for our high level of expertise, Black Gates Meek & Dong have been providing quality eye care to generations of families throughout Greater Wellington since 1935.
Our familiar location on the corner of High Street and Andrews Ave provides easy access for people of limited mobility and is close to plenty of parking.
We place great emphasis on professional service and have invested in several items of specialised equipment, so we can provide you with state-of-the-art health screening. Regular attendance at conferences and educational meetings ensures our Optometrists and Opticians are kept up to date with all the latest developments in vision care.
When you visit us you are not only provided with the largest frame selection in the Hutt Valley but also the expertise and experience of our dedicated team of Opticians. They are here to advise you on the most appropriate choice of frame style and lens design. You’ll also experience the support of a fully equipped workshop which is able to repair most frame types and provide cleaning and maintenance services of all types of contact lenses – including on-site rigid lens polishing.
Our Frame Selection is one of the largest in the Wellington region. We get new stock in daily, and also have a frame appro system if you would like to show friends or try them on at home. Let our friendly qualified staff assist you in finding a frame that best complements you.
Our frames have a two year warranty and will match any written “apples for apples” quote.
The Vision Examination is the first step in achieving clear and comfortable vision. Assessing visual needs is as important as your eyesight. Our regular appointments are 40 minutes long to allow for thorough and unhurried examinations. We are comfortable testing children of all ages.
All our optometrists are members of the New Zealand Association of Optometrists (NZAO).
Contact Lens Fitting is a subspecialty of our optometric team. We routinely fit and maintain all types of contact lenses, including rigid lenses for Keratoconus and abnormal corneas. We are contracted service providers of subsidised contact lens fitting to the Capital Coast and Lower Hutt DHBs.
All our optometrists are members of the Cornea and Contact Lens Society of New Zealand (CCLS).
Diabetic Retinal Screening. We are a contracted service provider to Capital Coast Health for photoscreening examinations, and are proud of pioneering this award winning program. Ask your doctor to refer you should you need to access this service.
Eye Pathology (including Sore or Red Eyes). We are able to examine your eyes and prescribe eye-drops when your eyes are sore or red and will refer you to specialist care when this is appropriate. Glaucoma and other eye diseases are screened for during our comprehensive routine examinations, but specific screening appointments can be arranged. If you are concerned about sudden changes in your vision (including Flashes or Floaters) please mention this when you make an appointment.
The Visual Field Test is an essential test in establishing how diseases affect your vision. This automated test maps the sensitivity of your peripheral vision, and can be used to investigate glaucoma, strokes, neurological problems and other diseases.
Digital Imaging is essential for monitoring your eyes, and making sure that they keep healthy. We have invested in state of the art imaging systems, so that our optometrists are able to make better decisions about changes in your eyes over time.
